چکیده

• Specific urban microclimates are not considered by building energy simulation tools. Numerical modelling with multi-nodal outdoor conditions is developed. The aim to quantify the benefits of specific in performance. A reference case a courtyard microclimate was measured, simulated and validated. Courtyard mitigates impact extreme heat buildings. Extreme events expected occur more often as consequence climate change. This paper quantifies on performance evaluates microclimates, such inner courtyards, mitigate impacts. study associated two weather conditions, an local climate, validated TRNSYS. model then compared three models single condition data from rural station typical year file. were evaluated free-running air-conditioning systems. results show how can increase indoor discomfort hours 32% demonstrate that almost completely overheating buildings, eliminating severe than 88%. Moreover, cooling demand due reduced 15% having findings manifest importance accurate for enable additional strategies risks, highlighting promising strategy tackle buildings cities.

An Evidence-Based Review of Impacts, Strategies and Tools to Mitigate Urban Heat Islands

The impacts of climate changes on cities, which are home to over half of the world's population, are already being felt. In many cases, the intensive speed with which urban centres have been growing means that little attention has been paid to the role played by climatic factors in maintaining quality of life. Among the negative consequences of rapid city growth is the expansion of the problems...

Highly Reflective Roofing Sheets Installed on a School Building to Mitigate the Urban Heat Island Effect in Osaka

Currently, strategies to mitigate urban heat island (UHI) effects and reduce building energy consumption are implemented worldwide. In Japan, as an effective means of mitigating UHI effects and saving energy of buildings, highly reflective (HR) roofs have increasingly been used. In this study, in order to evaluate the effect of HR roofs on building energy conservation, we investigated the solar...
